Sydney Diocesan Services (SDS) provides professional services to support the ministry and mission of various organisations and churches within the Anglican Church Diocese of Sydney. SDS plays a crucial role in supporting the Anglican Church’s work by offering services such as financial management, corporate secretarial duties, property oversight, IT support, and human resources. Their mission is to ensure diocesan operations are efficient, scalable, and aligned with the needs of the church community.
The Challenge
SDS sought to enhance their Salesforce systems to improve the management and operation of its services across diocesan organisations and parishes. The primary goal was to modernise their Salesforce infrastructure to better handle parish data, roles, financials, automate document generation and donations.
Additionally, SDS faced challenges with the implementation of complex parish cost calculations and the optimisation of existing Salesforce triggers. The overarching challenge was to streamline their internal systems, improve data integrity, and support the mission of the Anglican Church by providing a more efficient platform for managing diocesan operations
Solution
To address SDS’s challenges and modernise their Salesforce system, a comprehensive solution was developed, focusing on custom platform development, automation, and optimisation.
Services Implemented
- Platform Development: A custom Experience Cloud portal was created to enable parish workers, including wardens, rectors, and ministry workers, to access a unified interface. This portal provided easy access to essential data such as parish member information, roles, financial data, documents, and more. The result was improved accessibility and management of critical parish information.
- Apex Batch Processing: Apex batch classes were designed and implemented to automate the complex parish cost and recovery calculations. This not only ensured financial accuracy but also reduced the manual effort involved in these processes, allowing SDS to achieve more reliable financial management.
- Donation Form Integration: A custom checkout solution through Chargent was integrated to create a global donation form for Anglican Aid. This simplified the donation processing and improved donor engagement by making contributions easier and more efficient.
- Apex Trigger Framework: An Apex trigger framework was introduced to standardise and optimise existing Salesforce triggers. This enhancement improved system performance and reduced errors, ensuring smoother operations within the Salesforce platform.
- Refactoring Legacy Triggers: Legacy triggers were refactored to improve their efficiency, which significantly reduced data processing times and ensured that the system could scale to meet future demands.
- Document Generation Optimisation: The document generation process was optimised, especially for annual donor summaries, through the implementation of PDF Butler. This streamlined the process and allowed SDS to generate and distribute thousands of documents quickly and accurately.
